Márcia de Moraes

À DERIVA NO AZUL de MÁRCIA DE MORAES

Márcia de Moraes is from São Carlos, Brazil. She lives and works in São Paulo, Brazil.

Color is the essential element in the work of Marcia de Moraes.
Establishing a chromatic relationship between her drawings and the Blue Room at Carpe Diem Art and Research was a great challenge for the artist, who is exhibiting for the first time in Portugal. The central piece of the exhibition is a polyptych in 5 parts entitled À Deriva no Azul, a drawing which is dissected and extended between several sheets of paper.

Its shapes appear like fissures, grooves, fragments of dried leaves, twigs, mountain ranges and small sections filled with water. The mountain ranges are present in the other drawings and collages, and they bring together the set of papers presented, determining a definite path for the eye to follow. They are seen from the side, from above, from below, closer or from further away... Inspired by the shapes and colors of Lisbon, with its slopes, hills, and the River Tejo always peeping nearby, Márcia de Moraes sees the city though the colour blue. This is how the blue contour, present in her current works, originated.
