Public Talk with Edgar Pires

During his residency year at CDAP the artist developed an ephemeral and spontaneous process of appropriation and direct manipulation of light images, at Pombal Palace's white room, which has ended in his presented project. In this public talk the artist will present the process documentation that wanders between photography and video, recalling his everyday observation experience that influences his creative process.


BIOGRAPHY

Edgar Pires was born in Oeiras in 1982. He graduated in Sculpture at Faculty of Fine Arts of Lisbon, in 2007. Stand in its path the individual exhibitions, Colorless, the Stag Room in Lisbon (2013), Light, Space and Action, Baby Room/Space Avenue in Lisbon (2012), (Re) action, the Olive Mill in Oeiras (2009); collective exhibitions, Area / Obstacle, with Nuno Rodrigues de Sousa, COOP Residence in Lisbon (2013), Between Walls - June of the Arts, Obidos (2010) and was a resident artist at Carpe Diem Art and Research (2013/14). Prizes: (2009) Honorable Mention - Jovens Criadores Aveiro 09 – Sculpture category, (2006) First place (ex-aequo) for Marquis of Pombal Foundation – Fine Arts/ Contemporary Art – Young artists, in 2006.

Nuno Rodrigues de Sousa (1977), lives and works in Lisbon. He study Visual Arts/Painting at F.B.A.U.L. and is master in Science Communication/ Communication and Arts at F.C.S.H.U.N.L. He exhibits regularly since 2002. The most recent individual exhibitions have included: Desde as fundações em Direcção ao Céu, Quadrum Gallery, Lisbon (2014), Aberta em par está a porta, Round the Corner/Teatro da Trindade, Lisbon (2011). From the artistic residencies the most prominent are: Lisbon/Budapest Exchange (2013) and Chateau de Servieres in Marseille (2012). Occasionally collaborates with Isabel Brison, having organized with her the projects Daqui não se vê bem (2011) and Paper Architecture (2009). The most recent collective exhibitions have included: Screen City Festival in Stavanger/Sandnes, Norway (2013), Artists in Residence at Klauzál Square - 1989-2013, Budapest (2013), Superfície/Obstáculo, COOP Residencies, Lisbon (2013), O que passou continua a mudar, Plataforma Revolver, Lisbon (2011), Video in Progress 3: Fields of the Performative’, Cultural & Educational Centre - Vortex, Escópia (2010), EDP New Artists Price, Museu da Electricidade, Lisbon (2009).
