In Garden Monologue, polyphonic palace the artist Javier Peñafiel investigates the personal and collective memory that inhabits the Marquês de Pombal Palace. It is an investigation based on conversations with people that had an experience in the palace and in the re-examination of old documents. In this video work titled Garden Monologue, Polyphonic Palace, the actress Rita Só gives voice to the real and fictional people through a reading of letters, oral testimonies and fragments of old texts (illuminist) that results in an investigative document - somewhat fictional and documentary in which what is truth and a lie is unknown. Orson Welles reminds us, “Not everything is truth.” The artist Javier Peñafiel departs from this principal to construct his work.
